Eggs are coming!

It's that time of year again! Who's hatching? I will have eggs waiting for me when I return to school Tuesday. I have been creating and planning life cycle activities during my spring break.  My friend Deedee posted a super cute video. You can check it out on her blog, Mrs.Wills Kindergarten. I can't wait to show it to my class next week. It also inspired my latest creation.

More Froggy Fun!

 Feed those frogs!

I introduced this activity as a group game.
Students were given a frog tongue with flies.
When I called out a number the students counted the flies
on their tongue then hopped to the
white board to tape it to the corresponding frog.
I then moved it to a pocket chart for individual practice during center time.
Check it out at my TPT store!

I am being begged to make a memory game now for
 every theme we learn about!

Frog Life Cycle

Short week this week, snow day on Monday and spring break Thursday and Friday!
Today and tomorrow we will be learning about the frog life cycle.
My kiddos were so proud when they built the frog life cycle on their own!

Don't you just love it when those unplanned teachable moments happen!
I had not planned this activity.
I caught her drawing frog eggs and tadpoles on the white board and it lead to this!

Some frog themed rhyming!

You can get my "Frog Life Cycle and More" activities at my TPT store.
Just click on the photo above.

All kids love Easter eggs!  We sorted today by color.
Tomorrow I'm going to put various objects inside them and have the students sort by sound!

Ready, Aim, Fire!

We also talked about the beautiful stained glass windows that some castles had.
We decided our classroom would look great with some.........
so we got to work!
Wax paper, colored Sharpie markers, and crayons!

Building Castles

This week we are learning about castles.  Today the students shared what they already know about castles as we created a castle web.

During centers everyone was busy building castles!

Some serious collaborating going on here.  They are building tight ropes for
the knights to walk across when defending the castle!  I love their creativity!
I asked the students to build sand castles at the sensory table today
and let me know which sand is better for building castles, wet or dry?

Thumbs up to the wet sand!
They couldn't wait to sign up to test it out!

Ball Butting Goats!

Today we learned about goats. My son had two goats when he was younger, so they are probably my favorite farm animal. We learned all the facts about goats but the highlight of the day was when we pretended TO BE GOATS! Each student took turns head butting the ball across the room while everyone cheered them on, like a goat of course!
Yes, there is a student on the table.  Certain students were selected to show how
goats like to climb! This is normally not allowed in my classroom.
My son's goats, Jack and Allison.

Puzzles!

During center time today, I introduced our new farm puzzles.  The kids loved them!  Thanks to my aide, Mrs. Cole, I also have a great way to store them now.
Great way to practice sequential order.

This little guy was so proud that he could spell horse!

We can already read and build equations!

Measure like a farmer!

Today we learned how to measure the height of a horse, just like farmers do!  The only tools we needed were our hands.
Looks just like a real horse!

I modeled to the class how we could measure our friends the same way.

They loved it!

Take a look at what's happening while they are "playing"!  Name practice, number writing, measurement, counting, teamwork!

Cold Planets!

Today we learned about the two coldest planets, Uranus and Neptune.  My students loved getting to hold them and all agreed they are happy not to live there.  BURR!

Fill balloons with water, add a few drops of food coloring, and  place in freezer for two days to freeze completely.
Cut balloons and remove.  Ta da.......Ice Planets!!
