High Wire or Balance Beam?

Each day this month we are reading a different fairy tale or folk tale.
Earlier this week we read "Mirette on the High Wire" by Emily Arnold McCully.  My students loved learning about Paris, hearing some French, and learning about the art of walking on a high wire.
We pulled out the balance beam and tried walking it ourselves!

Next we made balance birds.
Super easy to do, cut bird pattern (old file folders work great) then attach a paperclip to each wing.
We discovered we could balance them on our fingers and even our noses!
What else could we balance them on?
Great way to incorporate social studies, gross motor and science into story time!

Sensory Bottles

With the cold weather and indoor recess welcoming us back to school,
I was thinking of something fun I could add to my classroom.
Sensory bottles!
I collected different sized bottles for variety.  Some are liquid, dry, noisy, bright, or just cool!  These are a great addition for my science area.  I can't wait until my students get back from Christmas break!
Tip: I hot glued the lids on, just in case.

I hope everyone enjoyed their break and time with family.
