This Week in Pre-K..."Insects and Spiders"

With all the creepy crawlies moving about, this is the perfect time of year to teach the kids about insects and spiders.  The weather here has finally started getting cooler.  This makes it easy to find spiders and other insects to catch in jars for the kids to observe for a day or two.  I just finished a fun product for this week to add to my math, literacy and science centers.  I  can't wait to see what kind of critters we can find this week!

Oceans!

For the next two weeks, we will be learning about oceans!
 Today we talked about jellyfish.
Did you know that jellyfish don't have brains and some have 24 eyeballs?!

What kind of fish goes well with peanut butter?

These were some of the fun activities in my "Ocean & Beach Fun!" unit.

Chicken Life Cycle Week!

This week will be all about the chicken life cycle.  The eggs arrived and the students are sooooooo excited!  One of my little guys even said he had been waiting his entire life for this! I am totally addicted now to blogging and TpT.  The creative juices were flowing over spring break.  Here are some of my new products in action!
We have mastered counting but number writing is still challenging for some of my kiddos.
I made this fun number practice activity for them with a twist of science!
  Oviparous animals!
Chicken life cycle puzzle.
They built the puzzle, drew it on the white board and acted it out today!

Egg sorting by color.  Group game today, center activity tomorrow.
Most of my students have this concept down but there are a few
 that need the extra practice.
My students have been hooked on memory games and are getting really
good at them.  I thought it was time for a different game. I made a game for
them called "Go on an Egg Hunt".  It's a variation of the classic game "Go Fish".
  They LOVED it!

Eggs are coming!

It's that time of year again! Who's hatching? I will have eggs waiting for me when I return to school Tuesday. I have been creating and planning life cycle activities during my spring break.  My friend Deedee posted a super cute video. You can check it out on her blog, Mrs.Wills Kindergarten. I can't wait to show it to my class next week. It also inspired my latest creation.

Space! FREEBIE

We have been learning about space this week.  Check out some of the fun we've had!

We filled the sensory table with Moon Dust (flour)  and recreated the moon landing.

One of my students discovered she could leave her hand print on the moon!  We also dropped  medium sized  stones  into the moon dust to create craters on the moon.  You can see one if you look to the right of the hand print.

Writing like astronauts!

What's inside an egg?

Today we labeled the parts of an egg and took a closer look to find out what is inside an egg. The students came up with great describing words.

Cracking an egg is not as easy as it looks!

How does it feel?  Great sensory experience for some of my kiddos.

Out popped a ...

This week we are hatching chicks in our classroom. Today we stopped and ran to watch two little ones hatch out. This inspired a writing activity for the day. I gave the students the following prompt, "The other day, I gave a shout when an egg cracked open ...". We walked around the room and pretended to find eggs (shouts included). When the students decided what they wanted to "pop out of their eggs" they sat down and wrote about it. Here is one of them.
